Demands for maintenance according to the NEN norm
In 2003, the NEN2659 standard came into force, which states that mobile fire extinguishers must be checked and overhauled. It sets out maintenance procedures and work in detail. The intervals for the maintenance of mobile fire extinguishers are as follows:
- Annual maintenance by an expert person (ODB trained);
- Full maintenance and replacement of the filling of mobile water and foam extinguishers every five years;
- Overhaul after ten years: complete disassembly in an overhaul workshop, with parts and filling being replaced where necessary; hose, nozzle and cartridge are pressure-tested; CO2 cylinders and/or propellant cylinders are pressure-tested and calibrated;
- Full maintenance takes place again after fifteen years;
- After twenty years, mobile fire extinguishers must be replaced and decommissioned
